One woman and the elements

Géraldine Fasnacht is a freeride snowboarder, basejumper, wingsuit, microlight and glacier-plane pilot.

Géraldine Fasnacht worked for the famous airline Swissair until 2001. After obtaining a CFC in commerce and a load-controller diploma, she left everything when she was selected for the most extreme competition in the world — the Verbier X-treme — which she won on her first participation.

She became a world-renowned freeride snowboarder, winning 11 international titles on the Freeride World Tour, the Verbier X-treme grand final three times, and scoring 23 podiums around the world. She started skydiving in 1998, and base jumping and wingsuit flying in 2001.

The bird woman is inspired by the mountains and explores new lines in the most remote places on the planet. She climbs iconic summits and opens major exit points in Antarctica, Baffin Island, Iran and across the Alps — from the Matterhorn and the Drus to Monte Rosa.

A pioneer in these high-flying disciplines, Géraldine never stops pushing the limits: tracing lines through the air in a wingsuit and down the steepest slopes on her snowboard.

Passionate about the mountains, Géraldine feels free there — connected to the elements. For her, flying is not a reckless adventure but a waking dream, realised only after meticulous planning. Through methodical preparation and experience she has built a deep knowledge of the mountains and their stakes. She does not deny the danger; she assesses risk carefully and knows when to step back, so she can live her passion without going beyond her limits.

Géraldine loves sharing her adventures: through her conferences she explores risk management, surpassing oneself and making dreams come true.

A woman pioneering her disciplines

My achievements

Snow is where it all began: three Verbier Xtreme wins, eight seasons on the Freeride World Tour. Since 2001 the air has been my summer playground: I open summits in a wingsuit — I climb them on foot, prepare myself and check every parameter, and only jump on the day I am ready.

« Flying and riding is my way of expressing myself. »

On June 13, 2024, Géraldine Fasnacht, snowboarding legend and pioneer of high-flying disciplines, is constantly pushing back the boundaries. She draws lines in the air with a wingsuit and on the steepest slopes with a snowboard. The birdwoman, who draws her inspiration from the mountains in her constant quest for new lines, has accomplished an unprecedented feat: a high-altitude flight followed by an extreme snowboard descent on the north-west face of Nordend, a steep slope of over 50°. An adventure that marks a new chapter in the history of extreme sports!

“Flying and riding are my way of expressing myself. For a brief moment, I’m one with the elements,” confides Géraldine. This emblematic adventure embodies her pioneering spirit, constantly inspiring and redefining mountain possibilities.

Immerse yourself in the world of this heroine of the summits with an exclusive screening of the film Nordend, Rêver au-delà des limites. This visual masterpiece, directed by Guido Perrini and produced by Line Prod with the support of RTS, offers an immersion into the heart of the feat. Géraldine will share the behind-the-scenes story of her alpine adventure, her intense emotions, and her secrets for pushing the limits of what’s possible.

La femme oiseau

La femme oiseau, cover

A book. A life. A new chapter.

It is with great emotion that I announce the release of my book. An autobiography, yes, but above all a life path. It took me almost ten years to be ready to write it, to find the right words, to go through the sometimes very strong emotions this work awakened.

This book is not a list of achievements. It is a sharing. Of my lessons, my joys, my failures too. Of the storms life sometimes puts in our way, and of the light we find afterwards, thanks to a passion, to the people around us, or to a strength we discover within.

Thank you to Éditions Arthaud for their trust, and to the immense talent of Florence Saugues, journalist at Paris Match and precious friend, who accompanied me throughout this inner journey.

It comes out on 7 May, my mother’s birthday, a nod full of gratitude to the one who has always supported me, like my whole family. Without them, I would never have found this way of looking ahead, this ability to smile at life and to carry out such big projects!

Thank you to everyone who has crossed my path. And to my partners for their support in my adventures.

A sentence that has carried me along my way:

« If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough. »
